Why I'm building a fab small enough to sit on your desk.

I'm Aaron Wang. I trained in electrical systems at Texas A&M before transferring to Texas Tech for mechanical engineering, a degree plan that runs along the same seam this machine does. I'm building PrometheusPCB because the slowest part of building hardware isn't the thinking, it's the waiting.

Why this

I didn't stumble into a startup. I went looking.

Before PrometheusPCB existed, I'd already decided I wanted to build a company. I'd launched products on my own and validated a consumer startup with real customers in the field. What I was missing was a problem worth years of my life: hard enough to be worth doing, and close enough to something I actually understood to be worth doing by me.

I also knew what kind of company. Something physical and hard, where the moat is process and materials rather than a thin software layer, and where a small team can move faster than an incumbent's committee. The gap between how fast you can think and how slowly you can hold a finished board in your hand is exactly that kind of problem. PrometheusPCB is the commitment.

Electrical systems at Texas A&M, then a transfer to Texas Tech for mechanical engineering: training that deliberately spans both halves of a machine that's equal parts electronics and precision motion. The seam this machine lives on runs right through my degree plan.

Before PrometheusPCB I worked in the lab at Stalker Radar, an RF company, hands-on with exactly the class of high-frequency hardware ceramic boards are made for. On my own I've launched live products people actually use and validated a consumer startup with real customers in the field. The common thread: build the real thing, and finish it. On this machine I own the electronics, the firmware, and the system integration. Since July, deposition and process too.

PrometheusPCB ran as a two-person company for part of the summer before going back to a solo effort at the end of July, when the deposition and process scope came back to me. That change is written up in the build log along with everything else, because a log that only records the good weeks isn't worth keeping. What the log also shows is that the pace held: a supplier signed, custom silver in manufacture, a motion platform assembled on the bench, first fired parts measured with calipers.

What's next

Early, and looking for the right people.

PrometheusPCB is early and moving fast. Texas Tech's Innovation Hub and an NSF I-Corps grant gave me the room to chase this now instead of someday. I'm past the literature phase, heads-down building the first functional prototype and talking to the hardware teams and labs who'd use it.

The seat I'm looking to fill is deep ceramic materials: ceramic processing, paste rheology, constrained sintering. If the co-fire shrinkage problem reads as a challenge rather than a dealbreaker, or you just want a ceramic fab on your bench someday, let's talk.
